Cornelio Saavedra Rodriguez was a Chilean politician and military figure who played a major role in the Occupation of the Araucania.
He was the grandson of the Argentine general Cornelio Saavedra. At the age of 15 years he entered the Chilean Army and joined the revolts of 1851 and 1859. Cornelio Rodriguez took office as General Commander of the Chilean Navy in 1860, but left the charge the same year. Later he was appointed commander in charge of the occupation of the Araucania during its first phase.
