LAN Peru
LAN Peru S.A. is an airline based in Miraflores, Lima, Peru"Directory: World Airlines." Flight International. March 23-29, 2004. Peru" 98. and serves as Peru's national flag carrier. It is a subsidiary of Chilean publicly traded company LAN Airlines , who owns 49% of the airline and operates scheduled domestic and international services. Its main base is Jorge Chavez International Airport, Lima. LAN Peru is the dominant airline in Peru, controlling 73.4% of the domestic market.
History
The airline was established in July 1998 and began operations on July 2, 1999 with domestic services from Jorge Chavez International Airport to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, Cusco and Rodriguez Ballon International Airport, Arequipa. The launch of LAN Peru marked the reappearance of a major national airline in Peru after the demise of AeroPeru, Compania de Aviacion Faucett and others. An international service to Miami International Airport was added on November 15, 1999. It became a subsidiary of LAN in September 2002. It is owned by LAN Airlines (49%), ER Larrain (30%) and Inversiones Aereas (21%) and has 1,500 employees (at March 2007). Nowadays, the company offers a range of 25 destinations in Peru, the rest of South America, North America and Spain.
Cabin
LAN Peru leased 17 Airbus A319 and 10 Boeing 767 from LAN Airlines to operate services to North America, South America, Europe and the Carribean. The cabin on Boeing 767 introduces full flat beds in Premium Business Class, a personal AVOD entrtainment system, complimentary meals, drinks and desserts of the Peruvian cuisine. Blankets, pillows and other ammenites are also offered in this class. In Economy, LAN Peru introduced its new seats that recline and slide, along with an AVOD personal entretainment system with larger screens. Complimentary meals are also served from the Peruvian cuisine.
Livery
LAN Peru shares the same livery offered in LAN Airlines, and changed the previous livery that contained the name "LAN Peru". Today's livery is a white background, and a blue part of the rear area of the airliner. The tail of the airplane is designed with a white star and a red line below it representing the flag of Chile, the father airline. Below the white star is a red line to represent the two main colors of the Peruvian flag as a secondary Peruvian flag carrier.
Fleet
LAN Peru operates aircraft from LAN's fleet with Chilean registration for both domestic and international flights. The aircraft currently used by LAN Peru are Airbus A319 and Boeing 767-300ER. Previously operated aircraft include the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737-200, which were registered in Bermuda and flew the Peruvian flag.
