Parral, Chile

Parral was founded on 1795 by the Virrey of Peru, Ambrosio O'Higgins, that gave to the title of “Villa de Reina Luisa him de Parral”, in honor of the wife of the King of Spain, Carlos IV.

Description and Geography

The commune of Parral, well-known, among other facts, for being she cradles of the Nobel prize de Literatura Pablo Neruda, is located to 50 kilometers to the south of Linares and to 97 to the south of Talca, in the southern limit of the Region of the Maule and the province of Linares. She limits the north with the communes of Longavi, Retiro and Colbun (with which she has a brief border in common in the cordillerana zone), to the west, with the commune of Cauquenes (Province of Cauquenes), to the south with the communes of Niquen and San Fabian, of the province of Nuble (VIII Region of the Bio-Bio) and to the east, with the commune of San Fabian. She has a surface of 1,638 kilometers square. The most important river of the commune is the Perquilauquen.

Demography

The population of the commune, according to the census of year 2002, is of 37,822 inhabitants, of who 26,397, (70%) live in urban areas, and 11,425, (30%), in rural areas. The city of Parral, with more than 26,000 inhabitants, is therefore the second city, by population, of the Province of Linares. The index of masculinidad of the commune (reason men: women) are of 101. Between the census of 1992 and the one of 2002, the total population of the commune experienced a reduction of 0.6%, that corresponds to 245 people. This population fall took place exclusively to expenses of the rural population, since the city of Parral grew in around 1,900 people (7.7%).

Attractive tourist of the commune of Parral

Spas of Catillo: located to 27 kilometers to the east of Parral and 320 msnm., this hotel complex account with a capacity for 200 passengers, pavilions of thermal baths, rooms of game, tennis courts and swimming pool. Their thermal waters emerge to 35° C and are recommended for affections to the urinary routes, vejiga, intestinal upheavals, respiratory and nervous diseases. Dam Digua: it offers possibilities of practicing sport fishing. It corresponds to a water capture for irrigated land, reason why the advantage of its shores is limited, due to the continuous changes of level. This beautiful place is also apt for the senderismo, and recreation. Dam Bullileo: this attractive place is developed from the dam constructed for aims of irrigated land in the premountain range of Parral. Its location is in the drawer of river Bullileo, an affluent of the Longavi river. Its aspect is the one of a water lake of color emerald, inserted in wonderful vegetal surroundings. There it is possible to be enjoyed the landscape, strolls in boat, photographs, fishing of relaxation, zones of picnic and camping as well as cabins, located in the neighborhoods. Bitter lagoon: waters above of Embalse Bullileo, by their South flank, exist a narrow footpath that allows to accede to the Lagoon the Bitter one, whose water-drainage is he himself dam. Hard Old: place in which a fort at the time of Conquista existed. This site, of archaeological value, is a relaxation place that allows to eet again itself with history and to enjoy long walks and strolls to horse. The Raft: place located in the Andean mountain range of the region, being one of the most beautiful leases of the zone thanks to its attractive natural one, without the intervention of the man. It is an excellent place for strolls and cavalcades. In his neighborhoods there is a beautiful river where the visitors can bathe or take sun, thanks to the bath characteristics which they have his borders. Another place that cannot be let visit is the located thermal baths to some kilometers from “the raft”. Bocatoma de Remulcao: one is located way to Catillo (km 18), is a tourist place that has become spontaneously, specially at summer time, in a zone frequented by visitors who can make picnic and encamp in the shores of the river. In summary, “Villa Queen Luisa of the Parral”, like was called at the time of being founded, is an excellent place for the people interested in knowing the culture and the natural beauties a zone and a city that offer the best thing of the Chilean field.
