Hugo Sigman

Hugo A. Sigman (1944) is an Argentine businessman who was born in 1944. Although his main business activity has traditionally been related to the pharmaceutical industry, over a decade ago he diversified his interests and today has a multi-faceted business profile: he encourages research on new treatments for cancer, he produces movies and owns the publishing house Capital Intelectual.

Hugo Sigman studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and undertook his residency in psychiatry at the Araoz Alfaro Hospital, in Lanus, where he was also Head of Residents. He is married to biochemist Silvia Gold, with whom he has three children. Together, they direct the Fundacion Mundo Sano, a NGO that, through community work and scientific research, fights diseases transmitted by vectors, such as dengue fever, Chagas disease, hantavirus, leptospirosis and leishmaniasis.

In the health field, Sigman is the president of Grupo CHEMO, which has its headquarters in Spain and is directed by his eldest son, Leandro Sigman. In Argentina, Hugo Sigman is a partner in Elea and Biogenesis-Bago laboratories. He also contributes to a Scientific Research Consortium that unites the efforts of university researchers, the Government and the private sector, in the search for new treatments for cancer. One of these treatments is already in phase III and another is in phase II of testing. In 2008, Mr Sigman was honoured with a merit diploma at the Konex Awards, in the "Innovating Entrepreneurs" category.
