Jose Maria Linares

Jose Maria Linares Lizarazu was a Bolivian politician and president (1857-61). He was born in 1810 to a wealthy and prominent family from Potosi. He studied in La Paz, and graduated with a Law degree in 1835.

Political career

Early in his life, Linares gravitated toward the world of politics, earning a number of administrative appointments in various governments. In 1839 he was called by the new president, General Velasco, to take charge of the portfolio of the Interior.
