Ena Anglein von Baer Jahn is a Chilean journalist, academic, political scientist, and politician. She is the Ministry General Secretariat of Government by President Sebastian Pinera. In 2009, she was a senate candidate for the IX Region as an independent supported by the Independent Democrat Union (UDI). She is a frequent panelist on a televised political science debate forum Estado Nacional, produced by TVN. She is also well-recognized for her academic work in the Instituto Libertad y Desarrollo.
Born in the IX Region of Chile and was raised in between the towns of Cajon, Gorbea and Temuco, daughter to biological-geneticist Erik von Baer and Helga Jahn. She is the third of four sisters: Ingrid, Karina, and Sybille. Her father arrived in Chile during his childhood with his grandparents, who were escaping Europe during World War II. The Von Baer Family is recognized for their support of agriculture in the Arauco Province.
Although she has had no formal political career and is not involved with any particular political party, she accepted to run for 2010-2014 senator elections of her native region, and for which she was supported by the UDI. She loses by a wide margin to her opponent Jose Garcia Ruminot of the National Renewal (RN). After her defeat, Von Baer worked fervently in support of Sebastian Pinera presidential race, after having worked as an academic in his non-for-profit environmental project Grupos Tantauco.
