Andres Augusto Mendoza Azevedo is a Peruvian football player. He currently plays for Steaua Bucureti.

National Team

After a failed campaign to qualify to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he was called by former Peru coach Julio Cesar Uribe for a two-friendly match squad against Ecuador in June 2007. He was used as a substitute the first game against their northern neighbors in which they defeated Ecuador, and started in their second game, where they lost 2-0 to the same team. He's also known as "El Condor" or "La Pantera".

On December 7, 2007 he was found guilty of having introduced women and alcohol into the national squad's hotel two days before Peru's away drubbing at the hands of Ecuador (5-1) and has thus been suspended indefinitely from representing Peru.

Infamy

Mendoza became infamous after the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Ecuador. Late in the game Mendoza came on as a substitute and promptly missed a clear chance in front of goal. The goal would have given Peru a much needed victory, as it would've put them in the third place. Since this episode he has been disliked by fans. Adding to his infamy, Mendoza is known to miss clear goal chances. Ironically, Mendoza scored the only goal for Peru against Ecuador in a qualifying match.
