Maximiliano Ruben Rodriguez , known as Maxi Rodriguez is an Argentinian footballer. He is commonly used as a winger or midfielder, and he currently captains Atletico Madrid. He holds dual citizenship: Argentinian and Italian.

After Argentina lost the quarter-finals game against Germany on June 30, 2006, Rodriguez punched German player Bastian Schweinsteiger in the back. FIFA fined Rodriguez CHF 5,000 and suspended him from two matches in Copa America 2007 for violent conduct. On October 11, 2006 he tore his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Argentina in an international match against Spain and was ruled out for six months following surgery.
