Universidad Externado de Colombia
The Universidad Externado de Colombia (Externado University of Colombia) in Bogota, Colombia, is a private university which grants 4 and 5 year primary (Licenciados) and professional degrees as well as advanced 2-year Magister degrees. Instruction is primarily in Spanish. The dean is Doctor Fernando Hinestrosa.
Teaching and research go hand in hand for the university's full time faculty members. Leaders in fields ranging from business, economics, law, government, and international diplomacy, bring their expertise into the classroom, sharing the newest currents of thought in their disciplines.
Today the university continues this tradition of liberal education as the best preparation for life, with an international dimension reflected in the unique programs that build students' understanding of other nations through intensive study of there culture as well as the rich Colombian culture.
The Universidad Externado de Colombia welcomes applications from students of character, intelligence, motivation, and achievement, without distinction on the basis of race, gender or religious beliefs. The admissions commitees select those students who seem best qualified to benefit from the educational experience that the university offers, as well as those students who can contribute to the Externado community.
As well as being a member of the Union de Universidades de America Latina, UDUAL, and the Asociacion Internacional de Universidades, AIU., it is a founding member of the Asociacion Colombiana de Universidades, ASCUN.
In 2005, UNESCO established a Chair in Human Rights, Violence, Public Policies and Governance, at the University.
History
It was founded on the 15 February 1886, by jurist and educator Nicholas Pinzon Warlosten, in answer to the educational restrictions imposed during the dictatorship of La Regeneracion. It gained full university status in 1958. Nicholas Pinzon Warlosten, who obtained help and aid from ilustrive proffesors from the radical liberalism movement, and intelectuals from the body-social, formed an educational institution where, since its origins, has allowed the study and investigation of free ideas and thoughts. The Universidad Externado of Colombia has admitted alumni from all regions of the country and from all over the world, has practiced the respect for all religious creeds and political ideologies, and has promoted tolerance as a fundamental formula to reach a peaceful comman-wealth in its diverse grounds.
Admissions
Its normal admission requirements are the Colombian bachiller (secondary school certificate) and El Examen de Estado (the State Exams). The TOEFL or Test of English as a Foreign Language is also one of the requirements for some faculties. Furthermore, the SAT and/or ACT are recognized for American students wanting to transfer to the Universidad Externado. As well as the normal documentation like formal transcripts, letters of recommendation, and apostiled documents (if that be needed).

The Universidad Externado de Colombia obtained from the National Council of Accreditation of Colombia the accreditation of high quality for the University in general as one educational institutional body. As well as for individual programs such as: Law, Finance and International Relations, Government and International Relations, Accounting, Economy, and Business Administration. It also has obtained recognition from internaional agencies and institutions.
Location
The prestige of learning and thriving on the campus is enhanced by our neighbors. From any campus point, you will find that many recognizable Bogota landmarks surround our campus. However, Colombia capital (Bogota), is more than a city of museums and government. It is a vibrant international city that balances its rich history with growing and evolving cosmopalitan culture. The mix of shopping, dancing, dining, entertainment, and nightlife within a two mile radius of the campus supplements the many on-campus activities and opportunities. Bogota has been called the most exciting capital of South America.
International Profile
The university has signed an educational affiliation agreement with the International University in Geneva, as well as having other exchange programs with institutions like Sciences Po, Copenhagen Business School, the School of International and Public Affairs of Columbia University, and La Trobe University amongst many others.
