Rio Negro (newspaper)

Diario Rio Negro is a daily newspaper edited in General Roca, and published in the provinces of Rio Negro, Neuquen, South La Pampa, North Chubut, South Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires City.


The Rio Negro was founded on May 1, 1912 by Fernando Emilio Rajneri. At first the newspaper was published every fortnight but later it was published weekly. Since 1958 the newspaper circulates as a daily newspaper. An on-line version of the daily is available since August 5, 1997.

The current chief director of the newspaper, Julio Rajneri, is the son of the founder, and the former national minister of education, who server during Alfonsin's mandate.


Since the foundation, the newspaper is very attached to the readers. The articles mostly talk about local matters and region matters. it was one of the few that critizice the military governament in the country (1976-1983) editing articles about the kidnappings and the violation of the human rights during that period.
