Jorge Jamil Mahuad Witt was President of Ecuador from August 10, 1998 to January 21, 2000. He was forced to resign after a week of demonstrations by indigenous Ecuadorians and a military revolt led by Lucio Gutierrez. He is an Arab Christian of Lebanese and German descent.
Mahuad attended Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and received a Master of Public Administration. He lectures in ethics and politics at universities across America. Mahuad is a Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
