Juan Carlos Latorre


Juan Carlos Latorre Carmona is a Chilean Christian Democrat politician and engineer, current deputy president of the Republic and his party. He is married to Ximena Rincon and has six children.

Academic Background

He attended primary and secondary schooling at the Liceo Aleman de Santiago, graduated in 1965.

The studies were conducted at the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, University of Chile, where he joined in 1966, gaining the title of Civil Engineering, with Highest Distinction.

Later he graduated from Master of Regional Planning and Development at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.

Politics Life

Militant Christian Democratic, throughout his life has assumed important duties in the political and gramial.

During his youth he was President of the Center for Students in the School of Engineering, the leader of the Student Federation of the University of Chile FECH, President of Christian Democracy and University Vice President of the Young Christian Democrats Chile

In professional presidency of the Metropolitan Council of the College of Engineering from 1983-1987 and was an Honorary Member of the National Assembly of Civility.

In 1987 he directed the Papal Guard, which assisted in the apostolic visit of HH John Paul II.

In 1989 he was elected MP by the District 35, Region VI, a position he held until 1998, after being reelected in 1993. During this period he became Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies.

In 1998, President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle is appointed Secretary for Public Works, in charge which was ratified by President Ricardo Lagos in March 2000.
