Juan del Granado
Juan del Granado studied at the American Institute of Cochabamba and obtained a Bachelor of Humanities in 1970.
At 17 he entered the University of San Andres (UMSA) in La Paz and launched his political commitment as founder of the first groups of university Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR).
He directed the Committee Interfacultativo UMSA, body recovered University Autonomy versus Banzer dictatorship.
Despite the harsh repression, its 22 years ended his career and received a degree in Science Legal and Policy 1975.
He continued his political activity and association in North Potosi, where from 1975 to 1976 he was consultant to the Catavi and mining unions in the twentieth century, and journalist Radio La Voz del Minero. He was imprisoned and exiled, during the Banzer dictatorship. On his return to the city of La Paz was Legal Counsel of the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) and several unions and organizations social (1980). His second exile occurred during the Garcia Meza dictatorship (1980-1981).
In 1984 he became one of the biggest challenges of his political and professional life, the prosecution of former dictator Luis Garcia Meza Tejada in the name of the families of the martyrs of the dictatorship, the COB and the Bolivian university. In 1993 and after 9 years before the Supreme Court, was achieved sentence of 30 years imprisonment without pardon for Garcia Meza and 45 of his top aides, setting a fundamental precedent in the rights, justice and democratic stability in Bolivia.
In 1993 he was elected National Deputy for the party Movimiento Bolivia Libre "and in his career as Congressman served as Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights from which faced severe research in defense of the rights Constitutional population and especially popular sectors was also member of the Constitution Committee of Deputies, where laws prompted creation of the Ombudsman, the Constitutional Court and the Judicial Council.
It is since 1996 member of the Bolivian Andean Commission of Jurists. As Deputy Attorney and has published several books, analyze and report on legal and politicians and has received several awards from human rights institutions and civil society.
In 1999 he founded the Movimiento Sin Miedo (MSM) who won the first majority in the municipal elections of the same year in the city of La Paz. He was sworn in as Municipal Mayor in February 2000 and its first faced a successful management plan moralization institutional reorganization and financial restructuring of the Municipality. He ran again in the Municipal elections of December 2004, where he was reelected, beginning his second term as mayor Municipal January 2005 for a further period 5 years, culminating in January 2010.
In these two years of his second term, Mayor Del Granado, has initiated a process of transformation structure of the city with a sustained support citizen.
The MSM, the political party led by Juan del Granado, has a political alliance since 2005 with MAS, ruling party of President Evo Morales, whose National management supports the mayor of La Paz.
