Sociedad Deportivo Quito

The Sociedad Deportivo Quito is a soccer club based in Quito, Ecuador. Deportivo Quito won national championionships in 1964 and 1968 and came in second place in 1985, 1988, and 1997.

The club was founded on July 9, 1940 initially as Argentina, later it changed its name to Sociedad Deportivo Quito because of a bylaw that stated that no team could be named after a country. The shareholders of Argentina got together and decided to change the club's name to Sociedad Deportivo Quito.

Sports journalists and fans nicknamed the club " La Academia" for its style of play.

The club founded AFNA on October 1, 1954, together with a Sociedad Deportiva Aucas and Sociedad Deportiva Espana, entities that were the pionners of professional soccer in Quito.
