Huahum Pass

Huahum Pass is an international mountain pass in the Andes between Chile and Argentina. The pass takes name from Huahum River that flows from Argentina into Chile at the site of the border crossing. It is one of the principal passes of the southern Andes and also one of the lowest with its 625 m whitch means that in difference to other nearby Chile-Argentina passes it needs never to close due to snow falls and is open all the year. The pass is regarded primarily as a tourism pass as road is interrupted by Pirihueico Lake were a ferry transports vehicles and persons to the other side of this long lake. It is the main pass of the Chilean Los Rios Region to Neuquen Province in Argentina. The main cities on both sides of the pass are Panguipulli in Chile and San Martin de los Andes (45 km from the pass in Argentina).
