Supermercados Peruanos is the second largest supermarket and hypermarket chain in Peru. Although its operations were concentrated around Lima at first, the chain started to expand in Peru by opening a store in Arequipa, Trujillo and Chiclayo in 2007. Three more stores are scheduled to be opened in Peru: 1 in Huancayo, also the company has plans for the next years as other store in Arequipa and 1 in Cusco.

The company fas founded in 2004 after Interbank bought Supermercados Santa Isabel from the transnational Ahold in 2003. The company has 3 denomination groups:

Supermarkets: Vivanda, Plaza Vea Super and Santa Isabel.

Hypermarkets: Plaza Vea and Market San Jorge.

Discount Stores: Mass.

History

The history of Supermercados Peruanos started in 1993 when the Chilean company Supermercados Santa Isabel S.A opened stores in Lima most of those where in locals where used to be an Scala Gigante Super or Hypermarket. In 1999 the Netherlands company Ahold bought the company, and began with the hypermarket proyect, it was called Plaza Vea and the discount stores Mini Sol(today Mass), but in 2003 the international Royal Ahold decided to sell Supermercados Santa Isabel and in the same year the Peruvian bank Interbank bought the company. In 2005 they opened their first supermarket Vivanda on Pezet Avenue in San Isidro District in Lima. In 2006 they started to change some Santa Isabel stores into ''Plaza Vea 'Super'. In 2007 Minisol changed their name to Mass, they also opened their first hypermarket outside Lima in Trujillo, and recently in October another one in Chiclayo.

Is the most important and powerful chain from the group, started in 2001 with a store at the Jockey Plaza Shopping Center, and today they have 15 locals in Lima, in others cities from Peru they have next stores or plans for future stores.

Is a subdivision of Plaza Vea Hypermarket, the prices, stores and attention is the same, the only difference is that this one is a Supermarket. The expansion of this label started in 2006 and today they have 7 stores in Lima.

Vivanda Supermarket

Is the secod label in importance inside Supermercados Peruanos S.A, it is dedicated to people of high and medium class, the label started growing in 2005, today they have 5 stores in Lima, and is scheduled the opening of one more after turning a Santa Isabel into Vivanda.
