El Primer Nueva Coronica [sic] y Buen Gobierno, is a peruvian chronicle of the XVIIth century. Written by Felipe Huaman Poma of Ayala (Guaman Poma), it was lost for several centuries. The original manuscript of the chronicle was discovered in 1908 by Richard Pietschmann, at the Royal Library of Copenhagen and was published by Paul Rivet in 1936, in Paris.

According to some investigators the manuscript went to stop to the library of Count duke of Olive groves. Later it was sold as part of this fund and bought by Cornelius Pedersen Lerche, ambassador of Denmark in Spain. Nevertheless, this is only a theory.

Resume

The chronicle reports events in Peru between the end of the XVIth century and the beginning of the XVIIth century. The importance of this work is because it presents the point of view of a native indian who has a tone of denunciation about abuses of the conquerors. Guaman uses ingenuity and irony when he describes the spanyards officials. Even, Guaman Poma went so far as to direct a letter to Spain's King Felipe II, in the form of this manuscript but it never came to the King.

Critics

The major critique of his work is the importation and impossing of a cultural and colonial system without an adaptation to the needs of the local culture. At the same time, it portraits the society in which he lived, makes a historical recount of the Inca history, according to Guaman Poma's etnical point of view. and explains it in a european way: religion, social order, legislation, annual calendar and economic organization, functions of the social groups, on the one hand, and bureaucratic vices and abuses, in the other.
