Jose Ignacio de Marquez Barreto was a Colombian statesman, lawyer and professor, who served as Vice President of Colombia under the presidency of Francisco de Paula Santander, and subsequently was elected President of the Republic of the New Granada between 1837 and 1841. His presidency was noted for its economic and educational reforms and for the War of the Supremes in Pasto.
