Jairo Varela
Jairo Varela Martinez is a Colombian musician, composer and songwriter of Salsa music and other tropical genres. He made his first musical performances at the age of 8 with a folkloric group called La Timba. In 1978 Varela, with fellow Quibdeceno Alexis Lozano, formed the salsa music group Grupo Niche in Bogota. He continues to actively perform and write for the group.
He is son of the Colombian poetess Teresa de Jesus Martinez Arce.
