Estanislao del Campo

Estanislao del Campo was an Argentine poet. Born in Buenos Aires within a unitarian family, he fought in Cepeda and Pavon battles, defending Buenos Aires' rights. The unitarians were a political party favoring a strong central government, in opposition to the federalists.

He is best remembered by his 1866 satirical poem Fausto, which describes a gaucho's impressions during the performance of Charles Gounod's opera. He also published his Collected Poems in 1870
